How to Choose the Best Wedding Caterer in Lagos

Choosing a wedding caterer in Lagos is not about picking the loudest name on Instagram. It is about finding the team that will still be calm at 2pm on your wedding day when the bride has changed her mind about jollof. Here is how we would choose one if we were planning our own.

Start with the tasting

A serious caterer will invite you for a tasting. If a caterer is only willing to share photos and a menu on WhatsApp, that is a warning. A tasting tells you three things. Is the jollof bottom-of-the-pot proper. Is the meat seasoned all the way through. Does the moin moin set firm but stay moist. Eat slowly and pay attention.

Ask about team size

A 500 guest wedding in Lekki needs at least 20 service staff, 4 chefs on site, a logistics lead and a plating supervisor. Ask your caterer to describe the team by role, not by number alone. Names matter. A caterer who cannot tell you who is running their kitchen on the day is not ready for your wedding.

Check their insurance and their hygiene setup

A professional caterer in Lagos carries public liability insurance and follows NAFDAC-aligned hygiene practice. Ask to see it. Ask where food holds before service. Ask how hot-hold and cold-hold temperatures are monitored. These are normal questions. A real caterer will answer them calmly.

Red flags to watch

No written contract. No sample menu in writing. Refusing to visit the venue in advance. Only one phone line. A caterer who cannot give you references from at least three recent Nigerian weddings.

Why clients choose us

We are All Occasions Catering, the team behind Ofada Magic. We have cooked for over 200 events across Lagos, Abuja and Ibadan since 2017. Our chef team visits your venue, your menu is written down before anything is confirmed, and your food is cooked fresh on the day.

If you are planning a wedding anywhere in Lagos, message us on WhatsApp. We will set up a tasting, hand you a sample menu in writing, and answer every question you have.
